Homemade recipe for easy, nutritious and healthy crockpot meal for dogs
Did you know that commercial pet food and snacks are full of preservatives, colourants and other chemicals which may harm your pet's health AND the planet? Yes, commercial pet food and treats do contain a few necessary vitamins and minerals to sustain our pets’ health, but not enough to provide their bodies with everything that they need. Additionally, commercial pet food contains about 35% protein, 19% fat and 37% carbohydrates - an interesting statistic considering cats and dogs are primarily carnivorous. Protein is the most expensive ingredient while carbohydrates are the cheapest; usually cheaper foods contain more carbohydrates. Often, they use substitutes like corn gluten meal or soybean meal to get the protein up to minimum acceptable levels - this leads to an excess in calories, making dry pet food one of the leading causes of obesity in pets!
Whether your dog is on standard commercial pet food or perhaps a more elite brand of pet food, it's always nice to treat them to a delicious and nutritious home-cooked meal once in a while! Not only is it an extra special treat for your pooch, but it allows for an extra dose of nutrients that they may miss out on store-bought pet food. We've dug up this beef and vegetable crockpot recipe for dogs, created by Chungah (the creater of the blog Damn Delicious), a self-taught food enthusiast who happens to adore dogs!
This beef and vegetable crockpot recipe for dogs includes nutritious veggies that are sure to boost your dog's health, as well as protein-packed beef which, of course, is an important aspect of the ideal canine diet. If you don't have these specific vegetables at hand, they can be swapped out with other vegetables, as long as they're not toxic to dogs! This is important to remember, as certain foods (including fruits and vegetables) are known to make dogs ill.
